Moss Agates are a form of chalcedony, a semi-precious gemstone formed of weathered volcanic rocks. Despite its name, this stone does not contain organic matter. It is formed of bands of chrome or iron mixed in with the mineral to give it a distinctive mottled appearance. These beads range in color from deep greens to silvery greens flecked with browns and whites, making each stone unique. This strand is 6mm in size, and the beads are smooth and round.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
