Garnets are a semi-precious gemstone formed in high heat and high pressure environments. The word garnet comes from the Middle English word 'gernet', meaning dark red. Though a dark burgundy red is the most common color for garnets, they can also come in every other hue. These stones were prized for jewelry in Roman territories and in the Anglo-Saxon England. These irregularly shaped smooth stones vary slightly in size and come in a rich dark red.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
