Tiger's Eye is a banded gemstone made of layers of crocidolite dissolved in quartz. They range in hue from dark brown to a golden yellow color. Historically, Roman soldiers wore tiger's eye stones to protect themselves in battle and ward off evil. The largest deposits of these semi-precious stones is found in South Africa, but is found in Asia and Australia as well. Red Tiger’s Eye is created by a process of heat-treating tiger’s eye stones to change their color from a brownish gold to a deep shade of crimson. These beads are smooth and round, measuring 4mm.
Semi-precious stone beads are mined all over the world and then are usually cut in China. They will often be dyed or color-treated to enhance their appearance. We select the best quality semi-precious that is available, and try to avoid finishes that are not durable. It is best to assume that some semi-precious beads will fade over time.
