Patsy Bruton - Guardian of the Globe
Category: Sculpture.
I started at the tail and worked forward using peyote, comanche, and square stitches as well as some of my own. To maintain the true bead colors I used 4lb test fishing line. Legs and wings were created separately and added last. The dragon is stuffed with fiberfill and has a wire armature from tail to head which holds him to globe. The globe was purchased from a glass blower in Ouray, CO.
Im a native of western Colorado and studied ceramics and design at the University of Southern California. I taught ceramics while raising a family and later, of necessity, returned to the work force as a secretary in the small western town where I was born. After our children were grown, my husband and I fulfilled a dream of returning to Southern California, where we settled in San Diego.
Through classes at The Shepherdess, a San Diego bead shop, I began my love affair with beads. A lifelong sewer, Ive applied what I learned by designing and embellishing clothing. This grew to include special jewelry to complement the fashions, and has evolved to making clothing and jewelry for sale.
I consider myself a multi-media artist as I dabble in wood carving, sewing and quilting, stitchery, sculpture and stained glass. I have exhibited in shows and galleries in San Diego, Santa Fe and Colorado. I am currently working on a series of Father Christmases to be sold on the web. The dragon done for the challenge is for sale.
