Kristin Tescher - Icarus

Techniques used include: bookbinding, loom weaving, spiral rope technique, embroidery, twisted fringe, branch fringe, 2-drop peyote and peyote ruffles.
“Icarus” is a 6-panel book based on a re-telling of the story of Icarus, using the words of Anne Lister, a singer/songwriter from England. Her song “Icarus” is a lovely reworking of the story, in which Icarus dreams of flying and builds himself a pair of wings, only to fly too close to the sun and fall into the sea. The singer of the song is one who loved Icarus - I imagined a lover - and created the book based on images that came to me as I listened to the song.
