Cary Franklin Gasper - The Genie of the Lamp
Category: Sculpture.
The Genie of the Lamp was constructed over a polymer clay and glass base using two-drop brick stitch, right angle weave, peyote stitch, ndebele and netting, with surface embellishment.
The Story:
In ancient times it was said that an evil magician forced a poor, young boy to go down into a cave deep in the desert to retrieve a magical lamp that rested among untold riches. The boy wasn't to touch anything except the lamp. When the boy returned to the mouth of the cave the magician demanded the lamp. The boy wouldn't give it to him until he was out of the cave. This angered the magician, who intended to leave the boy in the cave to die, and he sealed the cave shut with his magic. Trapped inside the cave, the boy wondered what made this lamp so important to the magician. Certainly it couldn't be just an ordinary lamp. Examining it the boy rubbed the lamp and to his amazement a genie appeareda granter of wishes, anything your heart desires, the moon and the stars! And with the Genie's help, the boy got out of the cave, married a beautiful princess, and never wanted for anything ever again. What would you wish for? (Besides more time to bead, of course!)
